Olubusola (Busola) Eshiet has a PhD in Education with a focus on improving the reading skills of Nigerian pupils. During the PhD research, she established that synthetic phonics instruction resulted in ease of gaining reading and writing skills. These skills were easily transferred to other subjects resulting in greater achievement not only in language but in other subjects as well.
Her drive to achieve a higher literacy rate in Nigeria has its root in over 30 years of experience as a teacher. She sadly noticed a gradual decline in reading and writing skills. As a supporter of development through education, Busola began teaching free after school literacy classes. She has since led many successful projects aimed at helping pupils achieve literacy skills early and with ease. In the past 10 years, she has initiated and supervised the implementation of programmes leading to the attainment of an increase in teaching skills of teachers and growth in reading and writing skills of pupils.
Her experience includes working with teachers, government, donors, and charitable organisations towards the achievement of improved literacy.
Busola has spoken at local and international conferences on literacy, publishedarticlesinpeer reviewed journals, and has developed a strong network with literacy experts in several countries.
